RCSI have launched a new education platform which includes over 110 courses dedicated for NCHDs across Ireland. This extensive CPDSS programme has been developed by RCSI in collaboration with HSE National Doctors Training and Planning (NDTP).

To streamline the process of booking courses for NCHD’s, the new CPD hub will give enrolled NCHDs full access and visibility over all courses booked and attended. It will allow full automation of all course bookings, including reminders, issuance of certificates of attendance, and follow up emails.

With a focus on clinical and non-clinical skills, this year’s suite of face-to-face and online courses have been developed in order to meet the challenges faced by NCHDs in modern day healthcare. With the feedback from NCHDs across the country, the courses are aimed atsupporting the development of NCHDs in surgery, emergency medicine, and other medical specialties.

The new CPD-SS brochure gives in-depth descriptions of each of the courses on offer and provide an insight into what each course entails and who the courses is suitable for. New courses within this year’s offering includes Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Limb exploration and Microsurgery and Clinical Cancer Trials. The brochure also highlights broader information to NCHDs in relation to supports and resources, key dates, and other relevant RCSI information.

Kieran Ryan, Managing Director, RCSI Surgical Affairs said, “rising to the challenges ahead will need a wide range of skills, both clinical and non-clinical. RCSI continues to listen and understand doctors’ educational and training needs, and have organised a relevant and comprehensive programme to support surgeons, emergency medicine physicians and other medical professionals.”

More information on the CPD Support Scheme can be found here. Applications are currently open and will close on 30 September 2022.

To apply for the CPD-SS programme, NCHDs need to have a current HSE NCHD contract, be on the General Division or Supervised Division of the Medical Council Register and be enrolled with the RCSI annual Professional Competence Scheme (PCS) for 2022/23.
