Spanish Emergency Services Rescue Over 150 Passengers From Burning Ferry.
Spanish emergency services successfully evacuated more than 150 passengers from a ferry (the Sorrento) which dramatically caught fire while crossing the Mediterranean from Majorca to the Spanish port of Valencia. The captain did not initially intend to evacuate the vessel, owned by Italian company Atlantica di Navigazione, but the ferry was soon billowing black smoke, and passengers and crew eventually fled in lifeboats. The Port Authority said that 170 passengers were rescued, but the number remains unconfirmed. Three of the ferry\’s crew members were taken by helicopter to hospital.
