John \'WILD THING\' Daly coming to Cork
Cork will be welcoming John \’WILD THING\’ Daly this Summer for the Fota Island Resort tournament on the 19th to 22nd of June. The two- time Major winner will be returning to the event he debuted in 20 years ago. Back then he finished second in the 1994 Irish Open event.
“I can\’t wait to get over there. I always love my time in Ireland, which is a place of great golf courses and brilliant fans.” he said of the event. He will also get the chance to play against two of our own with both Rory McIIroy and Graeme McDowell having confirmed for the tournament. Also playing will be Paul McGinley, Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Michael Hoey, Peter Lawrie and Damien McGrane.
Daly won the PGA Championship in 1991 and the Open at St Andrew\’s in Scotland. In 2006 he placed 193rd on the PGA Tour money list resulting in him losing his non-exempt status but came second in the Italian Open and 18th at the PGA Championship in 2012. Still a popular draw for tournaments he relies mainly on sponsors and invites to feature in the bigger golfing tournaments.
