Irish General Practice Nurses Educational Association Podcast Featuring Dr Theresa Lowry-Lehnen

In this weeks podcast we had the pleasure of being joined by none other than Theresa Lowry-Lehnen.

Theresa is a Specialist Practitioner in General Practice Nursing, Registered Nurse Prescriber (RNP) and is a Teacher of Science and Nursing Studies.

Theresa has also published a number of books and medical journal articles, is an IUHPE Registered Health Promotion Practitioner and is a registered Teacher with the Teaching Council of Ireland. While also holding a PHd

Theresa has 38 years’ experience in clinical nursing practice, combining her practice with 17 years in educational, teaching and lecturing roles. She is currently employed as the full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist and as an associate lecturer at Institute of Technology Carlow. She is the National PRO for the Irish General Practice Nurses Educational Association otherwise known as the IGPNEA.

In today’s podcast we are going to discuss topics such as the vaccine rollout, the Slaintecare reform strategy, nurse prescribing and finally education and professional development.

Moreover, Dr Lowry-Lehnen accepted the positions of Editorial Board Member with UK published ‘Nursing and Practice’ Open Access Journal and World Science: Microbiology and Infectious Disease Therapy Journal in 2019 and with Global Science Excel ‘Clinical Diabetes & its Complications’ (Open Access) Journal in 2020. She produced and developed the ‘Student Health Matters’ eBook, endorsed by the Irish Student Health Association in 2019 and was Project Lead and Lead Author of the ISHA ‘Student Health Matters’ App, which is the first of its kind resource for 3rd level college students in Ireland.

She was shortlisted for the’ Practice Nurse of the Year’ Award in 2018 and 2019 at the GP National Awards, and commended for the ‘Nurse of the Year’ award at the Irish Medical Times Irish Healthcare Awards 2019. She was awarded the Irish Practice Nurse Association (IPNA) Educational Research Award 2019, and won the ‘Nursing Project of the Year’ Award at the Irish Healthcare Centre Awards 2019. She was accredited as an IUHPE Registered Health Promotion Practitioner in 2020. Dr Lowry Lehnen won the ‘Practice Nurse of the Year’ award at the Irish Healthcare Awards 2020.
